Mission Statement
The mission of the Counselor Education Programs at 海角直播 is to prepare graduates who will perform as professional counselors in schools and community agencies. The program provides a strong framework in counseling theories and techniques, as well as 鈥渉ands-on鈥 practicum and internship experiences. Graduates are expected to exhibit high levels of self-awareness; ethical behavior; knowledge of adaptive and maladaptive thought processes and behaviors; skills to facilitate positive client behavior changes; and personal characteristics of caring, empathic helpers.
Goals
The Counselor Education Program will create an environment conducive to learnig that supports diversity and produces appropriate attitudes, skills, and knowledge needed to become a competent counselor.
Objectives
1. Counselor Education students will acquire the knowledge base from the eight core CACREP areas of :
Professional Orientation and Ethical Practice
Social and Cultural Diversity
Human Growth and Development
Career Development
Helping Relationships
Group Work
Assessment
Research and Program Evaluation
2. Counselor Education students will acquire the skills and abilities in relationship to theoretical orientation, therapeutic relationships, and counseling interventions when working with diverse popultions.
3. Counselor Education students will exhibit professional identity through professional and ethical conduct.
The Counseling Program is accredited by
The program offers degrees in the following areas: M.Ed. - School Counseling, M.S. - Clinical Mental Health Counselling, Ed.S. - School Counseling and Ed.S - Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
Admission requirements for the Counselor Education Program:
Candidates must have a 2.5 GPA on all undergraduate academic work for the M.Ed and M.S. in General and School Counseling along with a completed bachelors degree from a regionally accredited program.
Candidates for the Ed.S. must have a 3.25 GPA and acceptable MAT or GRE scores and a completed master鈥檚 degree in General and School Counseling.
Completed application with all required paperwork must on file in the Office of Graduate Studies for Fall Admission-June 30, Spring and Summer-October 30.
Candidates will be interviewed by program faculty.
All students must adhere to a background check prior to admission into the program.
Applying for the Counselor Education Program
The following must be submitted:
- Completed application
- Three reference letters
- Official transcripts
- GRE or MAT test score
- Contact the Murphy Graduate School regarding required forms and deadlines. For more information, click here to visit the webpage.
海角直播 will be notifiied by the Murphy Graduate School regarding admission into the program.
Once admitted, students must meet with their advisor each semester.
Any student inactive for two or more semesters must reapply.
