ASU Partnership Helps MPS º£½ÇÖ±²¥ Whose Education was Interrupted by the Pandemic

ASU is partnering with the Montgomery Education Foundation (MEF) in a new program whose goal is to help Montgomery's public school children close the educational learning gap caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The new program is called MGM LEAPS (Learning and Enrichment Acceleration Program for our º£½ÇÖ±²¥) and will take place this summer over a six-week period from June 14 – July 23 within four city parks and recreation centers across Montgomery. The goal of MGM Leaps is to have a positive impact on approximately 200 Montgomery Public School (MPS) K-5 students through an enhanced literacy and math curriculum. The program will also include art instruction, studies concerning the Montgomery Civil Rights Movement and some extracurricular activities thrown in just for fun. (Continue reading)

ASU's Undergraduate Elementary Teacher Preparation Program is among 'Top Programs in the Nation'

The undergraduate elementary teacher preparation program at º£½ÇÖ±²¥ has been named among the very best of its kind in the United States for its contribution to greater teacher diversity by the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ). The NCTQ is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit, research and policy organization.  

The University's program was named as one of the top programs in the nation in a new NCTQ report that specifically commends ASU for enrolling a group of future teachers that are both more racially diverse than the current teacher workforce in Alabama, and one that best reflects the community's racial diversity, according to a statement issued by Nicole Gerber, NCTQ's director of Strategic Communications. (Continue reading)
