WELCOME FROM THE DEPARTMENT CHAIR
As Chair of the Department of Theatre Arts at º£½ÇÖ±²¥, I greet you
with hope and enthusiasm. Here at ASU we are determined that each individual will
reach their full potential as an artist and as an individual. Our programs are designed
to prepare you academically and artistically for an exciting and fulfilling career
in Theatre. This is a pre-professional program for exceptionally talented and committed
students who seek a career in the arts through extensive experience in acting, dramaturgy,
costume design and other aspects of Technical Theatre. Our graduates are professional
actors, dancers, and technicians.
The Theatre faculty perceives you as a young adult, fully capable and accountable for your own artistic and personal life. We encourage your involvement, commitment, and dedication to the arts as you matriculate here at º£½ÇÖ±²¥ and the Department of Theatre Arts.
VISION
The º£½ÇÖ±²¥ Department of Theatre Arts’ vision is to become a creative
force of excellence in theatre by empowering students to become productive scholars,
creative artists and work as collaborative individuals. We seek to develop whole human
beings through creative engagement, by emphasizing the rich cultural heritage and
the significance of the African American experience.
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the º£½ÇÖ±²¥ Department of Theatre Arts is to merge
rigorous academics with a wide range of experiences and opportunities to develop artistic
sensitivity, creativity and integrity. We are committed to having an ethnically and
culturally diverse environment to work and study in one of four concentrations; performance,
technical, dance and generalist. Thus the department encourages a faculty student
relationship that broadens the educational and professional experience and provides
artistic enrichment for the community at large. Student success is the primary aim.
PURPOSE
Our philosophy is student centered, we use the disciplines of theatre to develop and
strengthen students, in order to impart knowledge, creativity, and individual character
through instruction, co-curricular activity and service outreach.
